What Was Announced
At Advertising Week New York on October 6, 2026, Meta said checkout tests in Meta AI with Adyen, PayPal, Shopify, and Stripe are due to start this fall. A separate direct checkout test in Messenger, through Meta Business Agent with Shopify, is already in testing. PayPal is also being added as a wallet option in Meta’s Muse tool, alongside Link by Stripe and Shop Pay, with no date given.
Meta’s business assistant is also being tested with more context, such as past quarters, seasonal patterns, and earlier goals, plus conversational campaign actions that use previews and approvals. Meta has not said whether chat checkout will be open to every seller or shopper, and the source does not mention WhatsApp.
Three Things Small Sellers Can Prepare
- Clean up your product catalog. Chat checkout will draw on product data. Accurate names, prices, photos, and stock levels are the foundation, whichever platform wins.
- Keep your own storefront as the home base. Features still in testing can change or disappear. A website you control holds your catalog, policies, and customer relationships regardless of what any one platform offers.
- Use approvals, not blind automation. Meta says previews and approvals will control AI campaign actions. Apply the same habit to any AI tool touching your ads or orders.
Chat commerce may become another sales channel, but it works best when your catalog and store are in order first, not as a replacement for them.
What To Do This Week
Audit your product data in one spreadsheet, confirm your store supports a major payment provider, and make sure your website lists the same products and prices. Note that these features are tests, so watch for official rollout details before changing your sales process.
