What Microsoft Announced
Microsoft opened a public preview of Work IQ for business applications on September 30, 2026, with rollout continuing through October, according to ERP Today. Work IQ grounds Copilot and AI agents in Dynamics 365 and Power Platform data. It builds a semantic model from configuration that already exists, including views, forms, relationships, and a business glossary, and every agent that uses it shares that model.
It also adds business skills, which package a company procedure for reuse across agents, and governed actions, which let Copilot propose changes, route them through approvals, and update records within user permissions. Dynamics 365 ERP coverage is marked for late October and is not yet in the preview. Billing is usage-based through Copilot Credits, and no general availability date has been stated.
Three Lessons for Any Business Using AI
- Agent quality follows data quality. The model learns from existing configuration, including outdated views and relationships. Clean up fields, labels, and records before you point any agent at them.
- Write procedures down once. Business skills are reusable procedures. Document how refunds, quotes, or onboarding actually work so any tool can follow the same steps.
- Keep humans in the approval loop. Governed actions route changes through approvals and respect permissions. Let agents propose; let people approve changes to real records.
An AI agent is only as reliable as the business data and procedures it reads. Tidy records and written processes pay off whichever vendor you choose.
What to Do This Week
Pick one process, such as quoting or customer follow-up, and write its steps on one page. Then audit the records it touches for duplicates and stale entries. Note that Work IQ is a preview feature aimed at Microsoft customers, so treat it as a signal of direction rather than a tool to adopt today.
