What Stripe Announced

On October 21, 2026, Stripe introduced Treasury for agents. It lets AI agents such as ChatGPT and Claude work inside a startup's Stripe business account. Agents connect through Stripe's MCP server.

At launch, agents can check balances, pay invoices, transfer funds between accounts and convert currencies. Creating cards and spending limits for agents are listed as coming later. Businesses choose which accounts and data an agent can access, whether it can only read or can also act, and when moving money requires human approval. Stripe says it is not a bank, and its checking accounts are provided by Fifth Third Bank, National Association, Member FDIC.

One example is Kubrio, a one-founder company. Its agent reports balances, new and canceled subscriptions, failed payments and refunds each morning, and the founder plans to approve every payment it makes.

Three Ways to Get Ready

  • Start read-only. Stripe lets you choose between reading and acting. A daily summary of balances and failed payments is a low-risk first job. This is our advice.
  • Keep a human on every payment. Require approval whenever money moves, as Kubrio's founder plans to, until the agent has earned your trust. This is our view.
  • Write your rules down. List which accounts an agent can see, who can approve payments and what to do when something looks wrong. Spending limits for agents are not available yet, so your own written rules matter.
The Bottom Line

Agents that touch money are only as safe as the permissions and approvals around them. Decide those first, then switch the agent on.

What We Build
