We audit a lot of Indonesian business websites. The number of sites that look great but generate close to zero leads is striking, and in almost every case, the problems are not creative ones. They're structural and strategic.

Here are the 8 most common reasons, in order of how often we see them.

1. No Traffic, You're Invisible on Google

The most common "lead generation" problem is actually a traffic problem. If your website gets fewer than 500 visits per month, you can't expect meaningful leads regardless of how well it converts. Before optimising conversion, you need to audit whether anyone is actually finding you.

Check: Google Search Console → Performance. If your site has fewer than 10 impressions per day for your target keywords, you have an SEO problem, not a conversion problem. The fix is content and technical SEO, not a new design.

2. No Clear Call to Action Above the Fold

Most visitors decide whether to engage within 5 seconds of landing. If your homepage doesn't immediately answer "what do you do, who is it for, and what should I do next", you've already lost them.

The fix: your homepage hero section should have one clear headline (what you do), one supporting line (who it's for and the benefit), and one primary CTA button, whether that's "Get a Quote," "Book a Call," or "Chat on WhatsApp." Not three buttons. One.

3. Contact Form Only, No WhatsApp Option

Indonesian buyers don't fill out contact forms. They WhatsApp. If your only conversion path is a contact form that goes to an email checked once a day, you're losing every potential lead who wants a fast response.

The fix: add a prominent WhatsApp button that's visible on every page, especially on mobile. This single change generates more leads than most redesigns we've seen.

4. Slow Load Speed, Especially on Mobile

53% of mobile users abandon a page that takes more than 3 seconds to load. In Indonesia, where mobile is the primary browsing device and 4G speeds vary significantly outside major cities, a slow website costs you real leads every day.

Check: Google PageSpeed Insights for your URL. If your mobile score is below 60, this is affecting both your Google ranking and your conversion rate. The fix usually involves image compression, caching, and sometimes a hosting upgrade.

5. No Social Proof Near the Decision Point

Visitors who are deciding whether to contact you need reassurance before they act. Testimonials, client logos, case studies, and review counts all reduce friction at the moment of conversion, but most Indonesian business websites bury this information at the bottom of the about page, if it exists at all.

The fix: put your strongest social proof, a specific client result, a recognisable client logo, a short testimonial, directly above or below your primary CTA on the homepage. Proximity to the action matters.

6. Service Pages That Talk About You, Not the Customer

The most common service page mistake: describing what you do rather than what the customer gets. "We provide comprehensive digital marketing services" tells a visitor nothing useful. "We help Indonesian retail brands grow online sales by 30-60% within 90 days" tells them everything they need to know.

Rewrite your service pages to lead with outcomes, not capabilities. What problem do you solve? What does the customer's life look like after working with you? That's what generates enquiries.

7. No Retargeting, You're Letting Warm Visitors Walk Away

Most first-time visitors don't convert. That's normal. But most Indonesian business websites have no mechanism to bring those visitors back, no Meta Pixel, no Google Ads remarketing tag, no email capture.

The fix: install the Meta Pixel and Google Ads tag on your site immediately (even if you're not running ads yet). Start building a retargeting audience. When you do run ads, retargeting warm visitors is 3-5x cheaper per conversion than targeting cold audiences.

8. No Trust Signals for First-Time Visitors

Indonesian buyers are appropriately cautious about businesses they find online. If your website has no physical address, no team photos, no registration number, no client references, and no Google Business profile, many qualified prospects will bounce before contacting you, not because they're not interested, but because they can't verify you're legitimate.

The fix: add your business address, a real team photo (even just the founder), a Google Maps embed, your business licence number if applicable, and make sure your Google Business Profile is fully populated and has recent reviews.

The Priority Order

Fix traffic first (SEO), then WhatsApp CTA, then load speed, then social proof. Most sites can double their lead volume with these four changes alone, before any redesign or major investment.

How to Audit Your Own Site

  1. Google Search Console, check impressions, clicks, and average position for your key pages
  2. Google PageSpeed Insights, test your homepage and top landing pages on mobile
  3. Hotjar or Microsoft Clarity (free), watch actual visitor recordings to see where they drop off
  4. Count your CTAs, how many are on your homepage? More than two is too many.
  5. Test your contact path, fill out your own form or click your own WhatsApp button. How fast does a response come back?
